“Upper Room” Daily Devotional

During the Jan. 24 Roundabout, Doug Krekland shared with us the "Upper Room", a daily devotional email subscription. To sign up, visit their website.

Roundabout

Sundays at 9:30 AM

Roundabout is a time for fellowship, a place to be while the kids are in Sunday School, a way to learn more about the Bible, community organizations and what's going on at CTS. It happens in between services so grab a cup of coffee and join us at the fireplace where there is always room to pull up another chair.

Mar 7 - JAIL MINISTRY - Our very own Linda Pischke, nursing home social worker by day, writer by night, and active member of St. Dismas Jail Ministry will open our eyes to ways we can help people in our own community during and after incarceration.

Mar 14 - ASK THE MET - Members of the MET team bring us up to date on their progress. There will be special emphasis on follow up with the "Gifts For Ministry” questionnaire.

Mar 21 - COMMITTEE FAIR - Whether you are a people person, behind the scenes person, one thing at a time person, or give me a whole project person, you will be sure to find a place to share your time and talents at CTS. Eight committees will be represented this morning.

Mar 28 - ASK THE YOUTH. - Spend Roundabout with the Youth Group this morning and find out some of the amazing things that happen in the room with the comfy couches and foosball table. They will be leading us in an Intergenerational discussion.

Calling All Health Professionals

Health Ministries would like to begin blood pressure screening on some Sundays, in between the services. If you are a health professional, are certified to take blood pressures, and have that time frame available and would like to help, please talk to or call Sue Bischmann at 547-7275 or the church office at 542-7100.

If you are interested in having a private, personal meeting with Pastor Gary please call the church office at 542-7100, talk to him after a Sunday service or call his cell phone at 262-707-7458.

Food Pantry

Please Continue to Help Us Fill Our Grocery Cart* Each Week in 2010

When his disciples asked, “When did we see you hungry Lord?” Jesus replied, “Whatever you do to the least of these you do also to me.”

The need to help feed our brothers and sisters, who are hungry, is greater at this time, than some of us can ever remember! We must help feed “HIS FLOCK”, especially during these very trying times! Please continue to help CTS fulfill this outreach ministry with your donations of non-perishable food items each week. Thanks to all of you for your donations !

Food suggestions for this month are as follows:

3/7 - Hot and cold cereals, hot chocolate packets
3/14 - Peanut butter and jelly, jam, honey, bread
3/21 - Fruit cups, raisins, canned fruits and juices
3/28 - Potatoes, apples, carrots, rice, cheese

*All donated items are taken to the Waukesha County Food Pantry weekly, thanks to Roger Redetzke and Larry Wallenslager when Roger is out of town.

We Really Need Your Correct Email Addresses!!

The office is trying to update our email entries and we need your help. We are going to make a new contact list for mailing and information updates. Currently we are getting many emails returned to us because the addresses we have are not valid.

The Evangelism committee will be manning the counter in the Visitor’s Corner for the month of August. You can check the list there to make updates and corrections or send us a blank email with the subject Email Update, to office@christtheservant.org

Thank you for your help in this matter.

A Reminder About Hospital Visits

Sue Bischmann visits our members when they are in hospital care, either in Waukesha or in the wider Milwaukee area. From time to time we need to remind our members that we have no way of knowing if a Christ The Servant member is in the hospital unless you or a family member calls the church (542-7100) to let us know. The Hospital does not notify us even though you may list us as your church upon admission.

Make Your Sunday Even Sweeter!!

Interested in sharing your talent for baking or just shopping for baked goods?  Please sign up to bring a treat or two to share with the congregation during Fellowship time after our worship services.  The sign up sheet is located on an easel which stands on the serving table where the baked goods are placed in the narthex.  CTS treat cards are available for you to fill out and take home as a reminder of what day and service you signed up for.

Thank you in advance for your wonderful baked donations. Your Evangelism Committee

A Bit of Soda Can Etiquette

As many of you know, CTS collects aluminum cans by the back dumpster and recycles them for money that benefits the youth. While we greatly appreciate these donations, there are a few things to remember when dropping off your cans.

·       The recycling center only gives us money for soda and beer cans.

·       Items such as aluminum foil, bottles, garbage, and plastic must be sorted and discarded by our volunteers.

Thank you for your continued support of this project. The youth are able make about $80 per month with the current contributions.  A special thank you to Sandra Kowalczyk who takes care of this for us!

Cooperating Congregation of Greater Waukesha (CCWC)

Winter is coming and there are plenty of needy people in Waukesha County who need to stay warm. Help Cooperating Congregations of Waukesha County provide coats, hats, mittens, & scarves to keep our customers warm (everything is given free). We have had a 32% increase in customers year to date for the CCWC Clothing Shop. We are expecting the need for clothing in the winter to be greater. Please help us by donating gently used or new coats, hats, mittens, & scarves (any color, any size, children’s, men’s, etc.).

Donations are accepted Monday thru Fridays 8am-4pm.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me Griselle Cruz at griselle@ccwcweb.org or 262-549-8726.

Desperately needed! Clothing Shop Checkers

Without your help we will be closed on Fridays beginning this week.

Clothing Shop Checkers- check customers in/out & assist customers with clothing

Volunteers are needed Fridays from 12pm-4pm

We are asking that you help us get the word out to your congregations. We are looking for volunteers to commit for at least 3 months or longer. Volunteers should be able to cover a 3 - 4 hour shift.

This is a simple yet vital community ministry opportunity!

Any persons interested in helping or with questions should contact Griselle Cruz, CCWC’s Community Outreach Coordinator at: office phone: 262-549-8726 email griselle@ccwcweb.org

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Christ The Servant’s Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our ministry is up and running – going strong!  Numerous shawls have been created, blessed by Pastor and presented to their recipients.  In return, the ministry has received heartfelt notes of gratitude about the shawls and how they have comforted and provided support for each recipient.

The prayer shawl ministry currently meets the third Wednesday of each month, at 6:30 in the narthex.  During the gatherings we knit, crochet, tie fleece together, and teach the beginners who join us.  Just meeting with one another for fun and fellowship is the best part of all!  Even if you are not able to meet with us, you may complete a shawl on your own and bring it to church upon completion.  Please contact me, Yvette Schambow, upon completion of your shawl and I will assist you with the next step in getting the shawl blessed and ready for presentation.

Perhaps you know of someone who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl.   Please give me a call - I’ll check on the availability of a shawl and get one to you as soon as possible.  People have also inquired on how they can help our ministry, even if they don’t knit or crochet.  Here’s how!  You may donate materials such as; yarn, needles for knitting or crocheting, or coupons for materials. You may also sponsor a shawl, by making a donation to the ministry.  Money that is donated goes toward materials for creating the prayer shawls.  All types of your support are appreciated very much, and assist in the success of our prayer shawl ministry.  Thank You.

CODA - Codependents Anonymous for Women

A new Support Group for women is now meeting at Christ The Servant on THURSDAYS at 5:45 PM; they will meet for approximately one hour.  CODA is a fellowship of men & women whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships.  The only requirement for membership is a desire for healthy and loving relationships.

Some of the patterns of codependency can be:

  • Do I judge everything I think, say or do harshly, as never “good enough”?

  • Do I become resentful when others will not let me help them?

  • Do I freely offer others advice and directions without being asked?

Baptismal Font

The flowing water of our beautiful font reminds us of the abundance of God’s grace to us, his baptized children. But the flowing water evaporates quickly! We need to add a gallon of water about every other day – it holds about 10 gallons. Rather than add the cost of distilled water to our budget, we thought that this might be a very interesting and meaningful project for our members. Find out when you were baptized. On that date, or during that month, bring a gallon or more of distilled water (ONLY) for the baptismal font. We will add them as needed. We hope everyone will participate in this ongoing project: LET IT HELP YOU to "REMEMBER YOUR BAPTISM.

Thank you to all who have brought in distilled water this last month!

Care Casseroles

Last year the Health Board started the Care Casserole program, designed to provide a casserole to CTS members who have been hospitalized and are home recuperating.  This is an ongoing caring project and the more participants we have, the fewer times any one person would be called upon to make a casserole.  If you are willing to help, please sign up on the poster in the narthex.

To All Care Casserole Providers:

A big thank you is extended to all the people who made casseroles for our hospitalized members in 2008.  Eleven casseroles were prepared and delivered to members when they returned to their homes from a hospital stay.   Please call Karen Pohl, if you wish to be removed from the list of people willing to make casseroles in 2009. Thanks again to all participants, Karen Pohl,  CTS Health Board

Christ the Servant/St. John Neumann Partners in Christ

This year we observed the 19th anniversary of our covenant with St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Together we sponsor educational programs, servant events and joint worship opportunities. We do this to witness to our commitment to Christian unity. We believe that God calls the Church of Jesus Christ to one faith and one hope. The PICC committee meetings monthly, rotating between CTS and St. John Neumann. Talk to Pastor Engen if you are interested. Check this link to the St. John Neumann website! http://www.sjnwauk.org

Give the Gift of Sight

The World Health Organization estimates that the eyesight of one-fourth of the world’s population can be improved through the use of corrective lenses. Unfortunately for many, a pair of glasses is both unaffordable and inaccessible. In developing countries, and eye exam costs as much as one month’s wages and a single doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people. For nearly 70 years, the Lions Clubs have collected used eyeglasses for distribution to the needy in developing nations. As an on going service project, members of CTS are encouraged to drop off used eyeglasses in the collection container near the Welcome Center.

Personal Listening Systems

We are glad to announce that a feature of our new sound system in our sanctuary is the ability to use personal listening devices for those who need special assistance in hearing. These are small receivers with an earplug that pick up a signal that augments the sound of everything that goes through our sound system. If you are interesting in trying this system, please talk to Pastor Engen. If anyone is interested in purchasing their own listening device, we can buy them for $40.00.

Looking for Instrumentalists

CTS’s Worship and Music committee is looking for instrumentalists - either current players or those who can currently remember playing in the past - interested in sharing their talents with the congregation by accompanying music used during our worship services at different times throughout the year. This would not be a weekly commitment, just an occasional service here and there where extra instrumentation would be appropriate.

So dust off your drums, tune up your tuba, fix your fiddle, clean your clarinet or spruce up your sax and sign up in the Welcome Center with your name, phone number, instrument you play, proficiency level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and if you're interested in accompanying us as either a soloist or with a group.

Someone will contact you soon about how you can help make our services even more noteworthy!

Fellowship

During the first century of the church, the Apostle Paul praised the new church in Philippi: “Your life in Christ makes you strong, and his love comforts you.  You have fellowship with the Spirit and you have kindness and compassion for one another.” (Philippians 2:1)  And in the First Letter of John, the author wrote, “But if we live in the light - just as he is in the light - then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from every sin.” (1 John 1:7)

Our community of  Christ The Servant enjoys getting together for fun and fellowship. Many events are scheduled for both entire families and sometimes just the adults.  Some of the recent events include: *mystery road trips,* theatre productions, *game nights, *campfire cookouts, *sporting events, *road rally, *caroling party, and *New Year's Eve party.

Gathering together for fellowship is more than just fun time. It's something we do to show our love and compassion for one another, and to help each other grow in faith. At Christ The Servant, we have many small groups that meet to fulfill the needs we have as growing disciples of Christ.  We call them “Care Groups”.

A Care Group is a gathering of 3 - 12 people who commit themselves to become better disciples of Jesus Christ through fellowship. They will help you meet new people and establish meaningful relationships within the church family. We welcome ideas for new groups.

Let's Pray!

Prayer Chains

“The prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective.” James 5:16

At this time I would like to invite you to be a part of the e-mail prayer chain that we have at CTS. If you are on line and check your e-mail regularly, please consider being a part of this important ministry. There are no requirements other than when a request is received, you faithfully pray for the person(s) named in the request, and that you keep it confidential. That’s it! There is a sign up sheet in the narthex for your name and address if you wish to participate and are not already on the list. If you thought you were on the list but have not been receiving any prayer requests, please sign again so I can make sure I have the right address for you.

If you do not have e-mail, we also have a telephone prayer chain. If you would like to participate in that, just add your name to the list along with your telephone number.

If you have a prayer request that you would like us all to be praying for, please send it to kesu@aol.com, call the church office at 542-7100, or put it in the wooden prayer box in the narthex.

Calling All Men of CTS

There are two unique opportunities for men in our congregation in the next eight months.

Week-end retreat November 13 – 15 at Camp Edwards in East Troy Wisconsin.

The retreat is called, “One Year to Live”, and it follows the story of Jacob. It is not a Bible study or singing Kumbaya around the campfire. It’s not about getting fixed by an analyst or lectured to by an authority. It’s regular guys helping other regular guys sort out their lives in a structured way. Participants learn what’s really important to them, what’s been holding them back, and they leave with a one-year plan centered on how they would live their lives if the had one year to live.

April 2010 – We’re planning an event, so start thinking about it now.

It will be a two day gathering of men April 16 and 17, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. This event will have a full line up of inspirational speakers, discussions and music. Men of all ages are encouraged to attend for a time of inspiration and idea sharing to help the men of the church to have a closer relationship to Christ through an effective men’s ministry.

If you are interested in learning more about either event, contact Ken Bischmann.

Care Groups - Regular Schedule:

Morning Moms’ Group

This group will meet on the third Monday of the month at 9:30 AM in the Ark... This is both a play group for the children and discussion group for the moms, but if your children are in school and you’d still like to attend we’d love to see you there

Evening Moms’ Group

This group meets, without children, every first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM.  This is a discussion and fellowship group which meets in the Youth Room...  We will be discussing topics of interest to all moms.

Women’s Care Group

This group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 for study, discussion, and fellowship.  This fall we will be doing a study entitled “Women of the Cross”.  We meet in the narthex around the fireplace and all women of the church -- and friends -- are invited.

The “Lunch Bunch”  (formerly the W Group)

This group will be meeting for lunch on the third Thursday of each month (except for Sept.) at 11:30 AM and we frequent area restaurants.  The group is open to all women who are interested in meeting new friends and deepening already established friendships in the faith.  If you are available around the noon hour, please join us for an enjoyable time of sharing good food and wonderful fellowship.  We meet at the church at 11:30 and proceed to the restaurant of choice.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - Call to check on Schedule

We gather for fun and fellowship as we create new prayer shawls for our ministry.  The shawls are made by knitting, crocheting and tying fleece.  Supplies are available at our gatherings or you may bring your own. Beginners are always welcome as we also teach how to knit, crochet and tie fleece!  In the history of our shawl ministry, many shawls have been created, blessed and wrapped around those in need of comfort and support.  We continue to receive notes of thanks and appreciation, saying how much the prayer shawls are treasured by each recipient and their loved ones.

Please join us as we meet the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 in the church narthex.  Call to check on present schedule.  For questions about our prayer shawl ministry, or to make donations of fleece, yarn and crochet or knitting needles, you may contact Yvette Schambow.

Health Board

The Health Board meets on the third Tuesday of most months and discusses issues, plans programs, and puts forth the educational offerings which directly impact the health and well being of the whole church and its individual members.  If you have an interest in wellness, and wholeness of body, mind and spirit and would like to join the committee please contact Sue Bischmann.

Care Notes

The Health Board is pleased to provide a series of booklets designed to give help and comfort for those dealing with difficult situations. The booklets are located above the prayer box in the narthex in a wooden rack, beautifully crafted and donated by Don Mueller. Many thanks to him, and to Kathy Mallory who donated the first group of booklets.  Please feel free to take any that you feel would be helpful to you.
