Sunday August 3rd

The Social Ministry Committee will be hosting our brothers and sisters from Reformation Lutheran Church at a special 9am service here at CTS, Sunday August 3rd rain or shine! Pastor Mick Roschke will be giving the sermon and Mary Norton will be our special guest soloist.  Immediately following the service there will be a celebration of partnership with food and games for all ages!

Social Ministry will provide the meat for the picnic. We are asking those attending to bring a dish to pass.  Also, please bring along your outdoor yard games.  Watch for the sign up sheet in the narthex!

About Worship at Christ The Servant

The Lutheran Church has always viewed the public worship service to be an act of the whole company of God's people throughout the ages. Here at Christ The Servant we continue the use of the liturgy that has been used by faithful Christians for centuries. But we alternate it with contemporary settings that use guitars, piano, flute and drums.  Our congregation enjoys the variety! Our traditional worship liturgies include Evangelical Lutheran Worship settings 2,4,and 8, and the Marty Haugen setting "Now the Feast and Celebration" accompanied by piano and chimes.  Our contemporary liturgies include "The Chicago Folk Service" accompanied by piano, guitar, bass and flute; "This is the Day/Borning Cry" setting accompanied by piano, guitar, flute and timbana drum; and "Gospel Train" accompanied by piano, guitar, electric bass and drum set .  Add to that our Adult Choir, Youth Choir, Children's Choir, Chime Choir, and Little Ones Choir and you have a wonderful worship experience.  We would love to have you worship with us.

 Healing Services

Several times each year we offer the laying on of hands, a blessing, and anointing with oil in conjunction with Holy Communion, at our regular services.  Everyone in the congregation will be invited to come to the altar rail to receive this blessing should they choose to do so.

The concept of healing is not, nor is it meant to be, the same as curing. Curing means to restore to a healthy physical condition or to bring about recovery. Healing, on the other hand, means to make "whole" in body, mind and spirit. Only God can heal! Those of us who do the laying on of hands are merely conduits, invoking God’s spirit to flow through us, and asking him to make "whole" in Christ the person receiving the blessing.

The laying on of hands is an ancient form of healing that dates back to Judeo-Christian times. It’s origins, as well as the anointing with oil, are firmly rooted in the scriptures and the traditions of the early church. The blessing that we use is found in the Healing Service which is located in the Occasional Services book, and adjunct to the Lutheran Book of Worship. We hope many of you will choose to participate in this ancient and meaningful ceremony and experience the healing power of God’s incredible love.

PERSONAL LISTENING SYSTEMS

We are glad to announce that a feature of our new sound system in our sanctuary is the ability to use personal listening devices for those who need special assistance in hearing. These are small receivers with an earplug that pick up a signal that augments the sound of everything that goes through our sound system. If you are interesting in trying this system, please talk to Pastor Engen. If anyone is interested in purchasing their own listening device, we can buy them for $40.00.
