A Note From Pastor Engen:

Dear Friends in Christ,

Summer in Wisconsin is a God-given time to renew and refresh ourselves. Laurie and I will do that, and our prayer is that you will all find time for that kind of renewal.

If the rain will ever stop, we can begin to get at that renewal and refreshment time in a more serious way. To be more serious, our prayers must be with the people throughout our country, and really all around the world, who have been suffering from unusual times of rains and floods, tornadoes, forest fires, scorching heat, typhoons, and earthquakes, and thousands and thousands have died or have  been injured. The flooding in our area of the world makes many worry about the supply of food and food prices in the months to come. And I won’t say a word about the price of gasoline.

Let’s remember in our prayers all of these victims and their families. I can’t remember in my lifetime a more destructive season of natural disasters, deaths and injuries.

Let’s pray that this time of natural disasters will come to an end soon.  Let’s pray for healing for those who mourn loved ones lost and healing for those who have been injured.

Let’s pray and look forward to a summer of renewal and refreshment; may that time of renewal for you include being with us for our Sunday morning worship (9:00 a.m.) or Wednesday evening worship (700 p.m.).

And may God give you a time to lift up your spirits and know God’s love and grace in a new and fuller way.

Pastor Rick Engen

Reformation kids to visit CTS's VBS!

On Friday, July 25th, it is my hope that children from Reformation will join us at Vacation Bible School for an experience that will last with them for a lifetime.  A cookout is planned afterwards as well.  But for this to happen I need YOUR help!  Volunteer drivers are needed to transport the children both to and from Reformation.  Some cooks are also needed, as are food donators.  There will also be an ongoing school supplies drive for the children, so bring new or slightly used supplies.  There will be a box for them in the narthex.  Please sign up for what you can, and I will contact you later.                               Thanks,     Mike Pirlott

Help Feed Waukesha's Hungry

Thanks to everyone who donated food for our grocery cart! The need to help feed our brothers and sisters in Christ who are hungry is "still with us". So, please continue to help CTS fulfill this outreach ministry with donations of non-perishable food items.  Since so many of these people don't own a stove or microwave, meals that can be heated on a hot plate of eaten cold are needed.

July 6  -  Pasta and canned or bottled sauces

July 13  - hot and cold cereals

July 20 - Easy, healthy items children can prepare for lunch

July 27 - individual canned or boxed juices for kids

Please keep this need in mind while you shop and pick up extra items for our grocery cart. All donated items are taken to the Waukesha County Food Pantry weekly.  Thanks to Roger Redetzke who is now taking all donated items to the Waukesha County Food Pantry when the grocery cart is full!

May God bless you,    Bob Huck, Social Ministry Chair

Helping Hands Needed!

Visit Lonely Waukesha Seniors or Help Keep their Pantry Shelves Full!

Six lonely Waukesha seniors or adults with disabilities would really appreciate a friendly visitor volunteer just twice a month or once a week.  Many have waited for months for a connection to a caring volunteer. Two other seniors need assistance doing weekly grocery shopping at the Pick ‘n Save on Sunset Drive or at the Waukesha East location.   Help these neighbors maintain their independence in their homes and a connection to the community by volunteering just a few hours of your time.  For information, contact Carrie Lee Anderson at Interfaith Senior Programs:  (262) 549-3348, ext. 228.

Donate Now to Help Neighbors Affected by Flooding

The Salvation Army is working with other local groups to assist people in Waukesha County affected by the recent flooding.   They need the items below to provide flood kits to those who need them.  Please direct all donations directly to the Salvation Army at 445 Madison Street in Waukesha.  Contact Rachel Fjellman for more information at (262) 547-7367, ext. 225.  Flood Kit items needed:  buckets, bleach, mops, brooms, rubber gloves, large garbage bags, scrub brushes, sponges, bottled water, squeegees, masks, dust pans, Pine Sol or other similar cleaners.

Connect a Neighbor with Disabilities to His Community

A New Berlin neighbor with disabilities including lung disease and a neurological disorder would really appreciate a ride to and from his Thursday ACAP meetings in downtown Waukesha.  ACAP is an information and advocacy program for the disabled.  The meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.  Contact Carrie Lee Anderson at Interfaith Senior Programs to find our how a few hours of your time can make a difference in a neighbor’s life.  (262) 549-3348, ext. 228.

CTS TRUST FUND MOVES UP

The 2008 campaign to raise $3,000 for the Mission Endowment Fund is in high gear!  A total of $2,200.00 has been raised this year.  That leaves a balance of $800 to meet this year’s goal.  If you’re thinking of becoming a founding financial supporter of the Endowment Fund, there’s no better time.

Complete details on how Christ The Servant is planning for our future can be found on our web site:  www.christtheservant.org.  There is a special section on the Endowment Fund.  We have about $5,500 of our $25,000 final goal.  Thanks for your support

Memorial Garden Update

The beauty of the spring is past and the garden moves into the colors of summer….more yellows and reds.  Please wander out after church or during the week to see the garden.  The solar pump for the waterfall has been shipped and may even be installed by the time this arrives at your home. Some beautiful new shrubs have been planted in June including a fern spray false cypress – a spectacular specimen near the water feature.  And a new snowball viburnum in memory of Jasmine Owens (a 4 year old girl in Milwaukee killed about a year ago in a drive by shooting) and all children who were victims of violence.  I am finishing work around the pergola…..cleaning up the construction area and creating garden beds around it.

Thanks this month to:

{ Gerri Kabitzke for help weeding

{ Linda Lind for help with the pond

{ Paige Matz for her help around the pergola

This is going to press early, so help in late June will be acknowledged next month!

Third Annual CTS/Reformation Gathering

Sunday August 3rd

The Social Ministry Committee will be hosting our brothers and sisters from Reformation Lutheran Church at a special 9am service here at CTS, Sunday August 3rd rain or shine! Pastor Mick Roschke will be giving the sermon and Mary Norton will be our special guest soloist.  Immediately following the service there will be a celebration of partnership with food and games for all ages!

Social Ministry will provide the meat for the picnic. We are asking those attending to bring a dish to pass.  Also, please bring along your outdoor yard games.  Watch for the sign up sheet in the narthex!

CTS Cookbook
Calling All Chefs, Cooks and People Who Like to Eat!

The CTS youth group needs your help!  In order to raise funds for mission trips and other youth-based programs and events, we are planning on compiling a congregational cookbook and are looking for your favorite recipes, tips, hints and stories.  We have already collected some delicious dessert recipes after this spring’s silent auction, so we are especially in need of ideas for main dishes, appetizers, salads, sides and snacks.  Please submit your recipes, along with your name, phone number (for questions if necessary) and anything you’d like to tell us about your recipe or cooking techniques to Kim Dutelle via e-mail at Gemini6667@aol.com.  If you’d rather write or copy them and bring them into church, there will be a box by the welcome center for you to put them in.  You may submit them at any time, but we’re officially kicking off our recipe drive during the youth service on August 24th.  Our goal is to have enough recipes to put a cook book together well before Christmas.

We Remember

On All Saints Day, we celebrate the all the saints that have gone before us, who now share in the eternal joy of being in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Each year Pastor Rick reads the names of those in our congregation who have died in the faith since the inception of our church in 1965.  The Health and Wellness Board would like to keep these names before you throughout the year.  Bev Littlefield has graciously assumed responsibility for this ministry, and we are very grateful for her commitment.

There is displayed in the narthex, a framed list of the names of all the saints of our congregation, who throughout the years have gone to live with our Lord during the current month.  On the first Sunday of each month, the list will change to reflect those who have passed during that particular month.   We have heard from so many people who are grieving that they want to talk about their loved one who has died, but so often people will not even mention his or her name.  We invite you to examine the list each month, and talk to the relatives of those who are on it if you see them, or better yet, give them a call.  We hope that this will help us all to remember their death, so we can more easily talk about and celebrate their life.

To the Christ The Servant Family:

Food For The Poor wishes to thank you for the welcome you extended to Pastor Dingle on his recent visit to your parish.  On behalf of our less fortunate brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean, we thank you for having shared in their lives.  They, and you, are blessed by your generosity.  (There are envelopes and information about this ministry in the office if you’d like one.)

Words of Gratitude from St. Dismas Jail Ministry

 Dear Friends in Christ,

Thank you for your gift of stamps for the Waukesha County Jail.  So many inmates expressed their heartfelt appreciation for their gifts.  It is a comfort and encouragement to the men and women to know that others care about them when they are incarcerated.  Because of your generosity and friendship, the St. Vincent DePaul ministry is able to demonstrate God’s love for all individuals through the care and concern of our community.  Your donation has blessed all of us.

Sincerely,       Linda Pischke   St. Dismas Jail Ministry

Christ The Servant’s Prayer Shawl Ministry-Update!

Our ministry is up and running – going strong!  Numerous shawls have been created, blessed by Pastor and presented to their recipients.  In return, the ministry has received heartfelt notes of gratitude about the shawls and how they have comforted and provided support for each recipient.

The prayer shawl ministry currently meets the third Wednesday of each month, at 6:30 in the narthex.  During the gatherings we knit, crochet, tie fleece together, and teach the beginners who join us.  Just meeting with one another for fun and fellowship is the best part of all!  Even if you are not able to meet with us, you may complete a shawl on your own and bring it to church upon completion.  Please contact me, Yvette Schambow at 392-9194, upon completion of your shawl and I will assist you with the next step in getting the shawl blessed and ready for presentation.

Perhaps you know of someone who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl.   Please give me a call - I’ll check on the availability of a shawl and get one to you as soon as possible.  People have also inquired on how they can help our ministry, even if they don’t knit or crochet.  Here’s how!  You may donate materials such as; yarn, needles for knitting or crocheting, or coupons for materials. You may also sponsor a shawl, by making a donation to the ministry.  Money that is donated goes toward materials for creating the prayer shawls.  All types of your support are appreciated very much, and assist in the success of our prayer shawl ministry.  Thank You.

CODA - Codependents Anonymous for Women

A new Support Group for women is now meeting at Christ The Servant on THURSDAYS at 5:45 PM; they will meet for approximately one hour.  CODA is a fellowship of men & women whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships.  The only requirement for membership is a desire for healthy and loving relationships.

Some of the patterns of codependency can be:

·         Do I judge everything I think, say or do harshly, as never “good enough”?

·         Do I become resentful when others will not let me help them?

·         Do I freely offer others advice and directions without being asked?

Care Casseroles

Last year the Health Board started the Care Casserole program, designed to provide a casserole to CTS members who have been hospitalized and are home recuperating.  This is an ongoing caring project and the more participants we have, the fewer times any one person would be called upon to make a casserole.  If you are willing to help, please sign up on the poster in the narthex.

Thanks again to all participants, Karen Pohl,  CTS Health Board

Christ the Servant/St. John Neumann Partners in Christ

This year we observed the 19th anniversary of our covenant with St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Together we sponsor educational programs, servant events and joint worship opportunities. We do this to witness to our commitment to Christian unity. We believe that God calls the Church of Jesus Christ to one faith and one hope. The PICC committee meetings monthly, rotating between CTS and St. John Neumann. Talk to Pastor Engen if you are interested. Check this link to the St. John Neumann website! http://www.sjnwauk.org

Give the Gift of Sight

The World Health Organization estimates that the eyesight of one-fourth of the world’s population can be improved through the use of corrective lenses. Unfortunately for many, a pair of glasses is both unaffordable and inaccessible. In developing countries, and eye exam costs as much as one month’s wages and a single doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people. For nearly 70 years, the Lions Clubs have collected used eyeglasses for distribution to the needy in developing nations. As an on going service project, members of CTS are encouraged to drop off used eyeglasses in the collection container near the Welcome Center.

PERSONAL LISTENING SYSTEMS

We are glad to announce that a feature of our new sound system in our sanctuary is the ability to use personal listening devices for those who need special assistance in hearing. These are small receivers with an earplug that pick up a signal that augments the sound of everything that goes through our sound system. If you are interesting in trying this system, please talk to Pastor Engen. If anyone is interested in purchasing their own listening device, we can buy them for $40.00.

Alpha?

What is Alpha?  Alpha is an introduction to some of the most basic questions of the Christian faith.  We  gather for a delectable meal, a video presentation, and some small group discussion.  The videos are designed to be an excellent review of the basics of our Christian faith.  The Alpha experience is a welcoming, non-threatening event where people can hear the simple message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we have lots of fun while we are learning. We now have had nine Alpha courses at our church with over 120 people attending. They have all been very well received. Call the church for information about future courses.
