Thank You, Youth and Children’s Choirs!

Thank you to the Youth and Children’s Choirs for sharing their gift of song with us!  We had a great year!! Our Children’s Choir continues to be a powerhouse of joyful song. Our Youth Choir has become an amazing group of talented young people – they are the highlight of my week!   On June 8th our wonderful Youth Choir will travel to Reformation Lutheran Church in Milwaukee to share the music they have sung at CTS this year.  Both choirs are a delight for me to work with! Thank you to the kids and their parents for keeping up with schedules and rehearsals !!!

 Compassion Campout Thank You!!!

I’d like to give a huge thank you to anyone who contributed to the success of the Compassion Campout in any way. We collected over 300 food items, 500 articles of clothing, a whole carload full of toys and boxes of much needed personal hygiene items. It meant a lot to me to receive such support and reinforcement from all of you, and I know your generosity was appreciated by the residents of the Hebron House. I can’t say thank you enough to those of you who stuck it out with me in what looked like was going to be a rainy night, but turned out to be a beautiful one. I am so thankful that God blessed me with this opportunity and I know I couldn’t have done it without you all!

                                                THANK YOU! Sarah Marti

Scholarships Awarded

Our two endowed scholarships for young people going on to school from high school or continuing post high school work have been awarded. Congratulations to Mary Kuenzi who was awarded the Erik Redetzke Memorial Scholarship at our worship service on June 1 and to Jessica Laurin who will receive the Pat Koch Memorial Scholarship at our worship service on July 13!  Mary will begin her studies at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design this fall, and Jessica will continue her studies as a sophomore at Carroll College.

CTS Cookbook
Calling All Chefs, Cooks and People Who Like to Eat!

The CTS youth group needs your help!  In order to raise funds for mission trips and other youth-based programs and events, we are planning on compiling a congregational cookbook and are looking for your favorite recipes, tips, hints and stories.  We have already collected some delicious dessert recipes after this spring’s silent auction, so we are especially in need of ideas for main dishes, appetizers, salads, sides and snacks.  Please submit your recipes, along with your name, phone number (for questions if necessary) and anything you’d like to tell us about your recipe or cooking techniques to Kim Dutelle via e-mail at Gemini6667@aol.com.  If you’d rather write or copy them and bring them into church, there will be a box by the welcome center for you to put them in.  You may submit them at any time, but we’re officially kicking off our recipe drive during the youth service on August 24th.  Our goal is to have enough recipes to put a cook book together well before Christmas.

CTS Youth News for June/July

Summer vacation is drawing near…in a few short days it’ll be here! Welcome to all the summer activities; BBQ’s, water sports, the mission trip, family vacations, picnics, studying up for next year (hint, hint), and summer nights outside with friends. I hope everyone gets out there and enjoys it! In youth discussion, we focused a lot on hunger and environmental issues. I encourage each member of the youth group to be aware of what we do in our lives and how it impacts the poverty level and the condition of our earth this summer.

May in Review

On Friday, May 2nd, Sarah Marti hosted the “Compassionate Campout” or “Box Night” at Church. We started off with a video highlighting homelessness issues, had a soup dinner and then set up our cardboard boxes outside. Sarah held a worship session with songs and thought-provoking messages before we retired to our boxes for the night. It was quite an experience. Thank you to her for the gift.

On Sunday, May 4th we held our “Annual Dessert Auction and Pie in the Face Contest. We had so many people that contributed with baked goods; there are too many to list here. Thanks to all of you, we raised over $700, which will be matched by Thrivent, and will support our upcoming Mission Trip to Crossways Camps in July. Josh and Bob Huck both were honored with a pie in the face. Lucky them!  Note: Please submit your recipes, if you have not yet, (to Kim Dutelle) for our upcoming CTS Cookbook!

Looking to get some extra work done around the house? We are back in business for the month of June with our “Rent-A-Youth Program.” If you have projects such as cleaning, organizing, yard work, babysitting, or other odd jobs, please email Jeff (jeffreyrinderle@yahoo.com) with “CTS Rent-A-Youth” in the title and let us know what you need. The proceeds will go for the youth mission trips and projects.

Youth News Spot Light  -  Congratulations to our Graduating Seniors: Mary Kuenzi, Josh Wohlleben, Megan Fournier, Ashley Wedge and Josh Grossmeyer. Thank you to all who have given of their time, energy and gifts to the youth group throughout the years. A special note of thanks and congratulations to Josh Grossmeyer. He has been serving on the Youth Leadership Board and CTS Council as the Youth Chairman, has helped to organize and lead many events and I personally thank him for all his contribution and participation the last 6 years. Congratulations to Josh for a recent award; The Louie Armstrong Jazz Award for musical ability, character, and creativity…voted on by his peers. Nice job!

Living Faith Confirmation

Living Faith Confirmation at Christ The Servant is structured around the words of Jesus known as the Great Commandment: "Love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. ...Love your neighbor as you love yourself. "  Matthew:22: 37 & 39.  We work to help our young people to grow to love and live that commandment.  We call the components: Wisdom (mind), Practice (heart and soul) and Action (love).  The content of the program is the same that has been taught in the Lutheran Church since the beginning - Luther's Catechism.    The difference is the method with which we teach.  The Wisdom portion of The Living Faith Program is mostly taught in BIG NIGHTS!  scheduled once per month on Sunday evening.  Included is the main theme, Bible study, fun and games, and even dinner!  The Practice portion continues the next week at independently scheduled meetings of our Small Groups.   Included is a deepening understanding of the main theme, prayer, support, spiritual nurture and development of  ways to put their faith to work in their lives.  The Action portion is designed to help them learn to reach out to others in love.    In James 2:26, the Bible says, "So then, as the body without the spirit is dead, also faith without actions is dead." We want to pass on to the young people of Christ The Servant a faith alive with actions worthy of our name.  To this end, we do Servant Days of work in our community.   Confirmation takes place the 3rd Sunday in May.

Eighth Grade Highlight: In June, Pastor Engen accompanies our eighth grade students to Confirmation By The Lake - a  one week camp at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin conducted with many other young Christians from southeast Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

Ninth Grade Highlight:  In January, ninth grade students go on overnight retreat.  Besides the fun they are bound to have, on retreat they will take a spiritual gifts inventory and make plans for their Confirmation Project.  This will be a project of interest to each student related to the gifts God has given them.  Projects will be presented to families and friends before Confirmation Day in May.

Sunday Morning: High School students may attend a discussion group that meets in the Youth Lounge on Sundays from 9:30 to 10:30.  Many of them become readers for our services.

Chime Choir!

Music Opportunity for Young People in Grades 6 - 12!

We are grateful for two memorial gifts received this past month, both related to our ministry of music: We have a new two-octave set of chimettes that we will use to form a chime choir. Members of the choir will be young people in grades 6 through high school. Jennifer Hauser will direct the choir, and rehearsals have begun. The chimettes are a gift from Ginny Nyman in memory of Ernie Nyman and family and friends of Doris McMiller.

We have purchased a two-octave set of MelodyChimes from Schulmerich Bells. The chimes have a sound that is similar to a handbell. However, they are smaller and lighter making them very easy to handle for people of all ages. You don’t have to read music to play them so anybody can participate. And on top of that, there is little if any maintenance needed. This is going to be a fantastic addition to our already great music program!! Call the office at 542-7100 for more info.

Youth Choir for Grades 6 and up!

If you are in grade 6 and up, please consider singing in the Youth Choir.  We  practice on Wed. from 7:15 – 7:45 and sing 2 times each month – once at early and once at late.      Thanks! Mrs. Engen

Youth Ministry at Christ The Servant

Christ The Servant has a very active and growing Youth Ministry.  Giving young Christians a safe place to gather together for fun, recreation, and craziness is an important part of youth ministry.  Children, especially teens, grow better when they feel acceptance and support, not judgment and criticism.   Our Youth Ministry Team works to help our young people grow in healthy ways as well as grow in faith.  Parents are the most important models of faith for their sons and daughters.  Good programs can help parents in that journey with their children.

Christ the Servant youth participate in a wide variety of activities, including Big Screen Movie Nights, trips to Great America and Noah’s Ark, helping serve Loaves and Fishes meals, recreational outings, lock-ins, retreats and service projects. Summertime Mission Trips have become a good way for our young people to have unique experiences that include putting their faith into action.  Christ the Servant youth have made many Servant Trips: West Virginia, South Dakota, Tennessee, Ashland, WI., New York, Waupaca! We also went to the Youth Gathering in San Antonio, participate in leadership conferences and lots of fun stuff as well!
